Old boy Ollie climbs the jazz charts for Christmas

Tuesday 18 December 2018

Storming into the jazz top three albums on iTunes, local trumpet player Ollie Mulkeen (OL2001) overtook Frank Sinatra to take the second spot in the race for No 1 Christmas album.

Professional entertainer Ollie performs throughout the UK as a singer and trumpet player, both solo and with his band the Jive Swings.  Currently not signed to a record label, 34-year-old Ollie funded and produced his own album, which is now in the charts alongside some of music’s biggest names in the jazz world.

Ollie says his album, entitled Christmas Once More, is: “a combination of traditional songs, along with an original composition, and we would love it to give Michael Buble a run for his money this year!” Ollie’s new song is co-written with Ollie’s friend, pianist Andy Pickering.

Ollie attended Bardsey Primary School, and then Leeds Grammar School before securing a music scholarship for sixth form at Harrow School. He also honed his instrumental talent as a member of the National Children’s Orchestra and National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain. His career has seen him as a headline performer on some of the finest cruise ships in the world such as Princess Cruises, Celebrity, Oceania and Regent.

However, you can also catch Ollie performing locally near the village of Bardsey where he grew up, including Thursday 20 December at the Windmill Inn, at Sant Angelo’s restaurant on Friday 21 December, and finally Collingham Squash Club on Monday 24 December.

To listen to or download Ollie’s album Christmas Once More, go to iTunes, Spotify, Apple music or Deezer.
