Wednesday 24 May 2023

Ten GSAL alumni and former Explorer Scouts took part in a Day of Celebration at Windsor Castle recently for Queen’s Scout award recipients.

The long-awaited celebrations, attended by over 400 Explorer Scouts who received their awards during the pandemic, included a parade in the quad and a service in St George’s Chapel, attended by HRH The Duke of Kent and Chief Scout Bear Grylls.

The GSAL alumni who attended were Millie Johnston, Kate Costello, Josh Osborne, Alyssa Miller, Amy Proctor, Aidan Boulton, Emma Proctor, Paddy Tonge and Patrick Haywood. They took part in the ceremony with leaders, Alan Naylor and Sandra Bavil who were honoured with the Silver Wolf and Bar to the Silver Acorn awards respectively.

The Queen’s Scout Award, now known as the King’s Scout Award, is the top achievement for Explorer Scouts and Scout Network members and comprises of a variety of activities to complete. It is equivalent to the Duke of Edinburgh’s Gold Award.

Also last month the last Queen’s Scout awards and the first King’s Scout awards were presented to GSAL Explorer Scouts by Deputy County Commissioner for Central Yorkshire, Alison Fell at the Scout campsite in the school’s grounds at Alwoodley Gates.

The final five Queen’s Scout Awards were presented to Benjamin Pettifor, Matthew White, Ashaz Hossain-Ibrahim, Oliver Smith and Tanay Inamdar and the first six King’s Scout certificates went to Rory Cobb, William Rushton, Adam Turner, Amelie McDermott-Boulton, Anika Mohandas and Shriyaa Papanna. They will attend a day of celebration at Windsor Castle next year.
