It’s easy to apply for a place at our school
Once you’ve had a look through our prospectus, simply complete the application form, which you will find at the back of the prospectus pack, and post it to Angela Boult at our Alwoodley Gates address, along with your application fee. The application fee is currently £25 (cheques made payable to ‘ The Grammar School at Leeds’ please).
Alternatively you can apply on-line by completing our Interactive Application Form. Don’t forget to send your application fee at the same time!
Although our main selection process takes place at the end of January, for admission the following September, you can apply at any time of year. We routinely receive applications from parents who have just moved into the area as well as those who wish to move school for other reasons. Subject to our usual selection criteria, and available places, we are happy to welcome new pupils mid-year.
The Application Process
Please take a look at our 7 stage application process below to find out how to apply.
Make your initial enquiry by contacting Mrs Angela Boult, contact details above right.
We strongly recommend that prospective pupils and their parents visit the School to look around and ask questions. We have a series of Open Doors events, when you can see the school in operation on a normal day, and also a big Open Morning on Saturday 15 October 2011. Click for dates.
You are also welcome to arrange a personal and more private – visit, which can include both a tour and a meeting with a senior member of staff.
Parent(s) / legal guardian(s) complete the application form. Don’t forget to indicate if you are interested in one of the bursaries available to new pupils (Year 7 entry only). Please return the completed form to Mrs Boult with a cheque for £25 in respect of the application fee.
In November we write to all applicants to confirm their registration by completion of a Candidate’s Personal Details form. Candidates are entered for the entrance exam upon receipt of this form.
We ask parents of pupils applying for Year 7 to indicate on the registration form if they require a bursary award application form.
In December we send our, to those parents who have confirmed their registration, details of:
- assessment interviews (Rose Court)
- entrance tests & interviews (Junior School)
- entrance exams & interviews (Senior School)
NB we continue to consider new applications right up to the assessment day in January.
We send bursary application forms sent to parents who have requested them as above. Please return these to Mrs Boult prior to the entrance examination.

Late Applications
