LGHS Silver Anniversary Reunion

Monday 11 September 2017

It’s some twenty-five years since the class of ’92 left LGHS, so Head Girl Penny Allen decided that they ought to have a reunion, to celebrate such a momentous occasion and to catch up on all the news of the past quarter of a century.

Penny’s idea quickly took off, publicised through Facebook, GSAL Alumni, and word of mouth, resulting in a gathering of the ‘girls’ with some of their teachers in the Malmaison Hotel in Leeds.

The ‘old girls’ travelled far and wide but the prize for the furthest journey undertaken in order to attend the reunion, has to go to Megan Craig, who flew from Brisbane in Australia. Such is the power of the alumnae.

These girls are now highly successful women with a wide range of careers, such as medicine, dentistry, the law, teaching, HR, market research, the army and of course motherhood.

Representatives from the teaching staff at the time also enjoyed catching up with their former pupils at the party. In attendance were: Janis Halliwell (Latin and Ancient Greek), Judith Kerr (Head of English), Sue Matthews (Head of R.S.), Patsy Phillips (Biology) and Liz Wall (History and Exams Officer.)

Speaking for the staff, Judith Kerr said, “It was lovely to see so many familiar faces and catch up on all the interesting things they have done since we last saw them. We shared some happy memories and a lot of laughter.”

Well done to Penny for organising such a successful event.
