The Grammar School at Leeds (GSAL) and Harrogate Theatre are teaming up this half-term for a Family Fun Day, to raise the curtain on what goes on backstage and allow visitors to get involved in the drama.

From seeing a work-in-progress courtesy of the magical Lunabug Theatre Company, to a technical demonstration from the talented backstage crew, from backstage tours to drama workshops with Harrogate Youth Theatre, and a chance to be someone else thanks to an exclusive costume sale, there’s something for all the family to enjoy during a special open day at Harrogate Theatre

The fun day marks the first time Harrogate Theatre and GSAL have worked together on a large-scale community event, and builds on an existing partnership between the two organisations.

Helen Clapham, director of external relations at GSAL, said: “For the past 18 months GSAL has worked in partnership with Harrogate Theatre to deliver high quality drama workshops to primary schools, with the aim of enthusing children about drama, building their confidence and promoting young people’s engagement with the arts. The open day at the theatre is a natural extension, offering a fascinating glimpse into theatre life and the chance to discover what goes on behind the scenes as well as on stage.”

Hannah Draper, head of education at Harrogate Theatre, said: “This promises to be a great free day out for families, who will have a wonderful time exploring this amazing Harrogate landmark. We’re really excited to show people how theatre is created from start to finish.”

The Family Fun Day takes place on Tuesday 18 February from 11am to 3pm at Harrogate Theatre, Oxford Street, Harrogate HG1 1QF. Admission and all events are free; activities are bookable on the day on a first come, first served basis.
