Students from The Grammar School at Leeds (GSAL) have signed up to support Team England in this summer’s Commonwealth Games by writing their good wishes on a specially designed flag.
Sportswear company Kukri, the official kit supplier to Team England and supplier of GSAL’s sports kit, is collecting messages of support from schools around the country in the run up to the games. The visit of the flag to Leeds was timed to coincide with the arrival of the Queen’s baton relay in the city.
Phil Morris, Kukri founder and group managing director, commented: “It’s fantastic to see our customers showing their support and flying the flag for Team England. The Kukri flag will tour schools across England, and we’re inviting the pupils to sign the flag and send well-wishes to all the athletes taking part in the games.”
GSAL’s director of sport Paul Morris said: “The students were excited at the chance to get involved in the build up to the Commonwealth Games by signing the flag, which will be carried on to the games in Glasgow later this summer.”
Kukri has produced a stunning range of kit to provide a truly uniform and cohesive look for the 600 plus athletes and officials who will represent England this summer. Alongside the traditional red and white colours of the St George’s Cross flag, Kukri, at the request of athletes, has introduced a third colour – maroon – a new rich, red alternative synonymous with English heritage.
The flag will be displayed during the official kit distribution between 18 and 29 June at St George’s Park.
