Teaching conference will inspire the leaders of today and tomorrow

Friday 25 May 2018

A Leeds school is hosting a major teaching and learning conference to help teachers inspire the leader within themselves and their students.

Encouraging the Leader Within is the theme of the Teaching and Learning Conference 2018, which takes place at The Grammar School at Leeds (GSAL) on Saturday 23 June. With two high profile keynote speakers and a range of workshops for primary and secondary teachers, the event will show over 300 delegates how to get the best out of themselves, pupils and colleagues, and develop an individual leadership style and approach.

The two keynote speakers will reference different perspectives from Shakespeare to social media to illustrate themes of leadership and provide insight into the issues that confront our young people today.

Professor Tanya Byron will close the conference with her presentation on the challenges facing tomorrow’s leaders – the children in our schools. A clinical psychologist, author and broadcaster, Tanya will draw on her expertise in working with children and adolescents to explore with delegates how they can best help children to survive and thrive in these increasingly pressured and anxious times.

Keynote speaker Paul Warwick takes his inspiration from Shakespeare, drawing on the bard’s Henry V for leadership lessons that can be brought to life in education today. Paul will be using Henry V as an example of an inspiring and unifying leader who brought people together towards a common goal.

Delegates may also choose three workshops from an extensive selection on topics related to leadership, teaching and learning, primary, including early years, and literacy.

The conference is organised by GSAL English teacher Anne Williams, who said: “There’s leadership potential in everyone, regardless of job title or position. Leadership is empowerment of yourself and others, being brave enough to take your own decisions, act with autonomy, and enable colleagues and pupils to do likewise.”

The conference is at The Grammar School at Leeds, Harrogate Road, Leeds LS17 8GS on Saturday 23 June from 09:00 to 16:00. Admission is £25 which includes lunch. Visit the event listing for further information and a link to online booking, or email tlconf@gsal.org.uk if you have any queries.
