Open morning will showcase school’s investment in pupils

Monday 2 October 2017

Following a summer programme of works to upgrade facilities for students, The Grammar School at Leeds (GSAL) will be opening its doors to prospective pupils of all age groups and their families at the annual open morning next week.

The school has invested £621,000 in improvements to its Alwoodley site, which is well placed for families from across North and West Yorkshire being served by an extensive school bus network. At the open morning on Saturday 14 October, visitors can tour the school with student guides and see for themselves how key areas have been upgraded for the benefit of pupils.

The sixth form café, which has been transformed with new furniture and a vibrant green and grey colour scheme, will showcase language learning at GSAL and host a European café. In the redesigned sixth form study area, staff will be on hand to advise on A-level study and sixth form life.

GSAL principal Sue Woodroofe will deliver her welcome address in the assembly hall, where the refit included new seating and lighting. At the information fair in the refurbished main refectory, visitors can talk to staff and students about academic and extracurricular life at GSAL.

Academic departments will host subject-specific displays and activities, while across the school site there will be sports fixtures, music performances and other activities to give a real taste of day-to-day life in a busy school.

Steve Kingston, GSAL’s director of finance and operations, said: “We’re committed to providing the best possible school experience, so we are investing in high quality facilities to ensure our current and prospective pupils can make the most of their time at GSAL.”

GSAL’s open morning takes place on Saturday 14 October between 09:00 and 12:00. All sections of school will be open – Junior School, Senior School and Sixth Form at Alwoodley Gates, Harrogate Road LS17 8GS, and Rose Court, Buckingham Road, Headingley LS6 1BP, where pupils from Nursery to Year 2 are based. Please register online

GSAL also holds regular ‘open doors’ for families to visit on a normal school day, with the next event scheduled for Friday 10 November.
