A silver jubilee dinner is to be held at GSAL to celebrate the 25 year partnership between the school and Malawi.

The event, in the Assembly Hall on Saturday 29 June, which is open to alumni, staff, senior school students, parents and friends, is also part of an on-going campaign to raise funds for several projects which are currently underway.

These include completion of four classrooms for Chimbowe Primary School, the establishment of a palliative care unit at the Malama Feeding Centre; provision of essential equipment for children’s orphanages; supply of essential medicines for Kasungu District Hospital; and provision of braille equipment for MACOHA (Malawi Council for the Handicapped).

One of the main fundraising events of the dinner party is a silent auction when guests will have the chance to bid for a 2 or 4-bedroomed house for a weekend at Robin Hoods Bay (donated by the Huitson family); a signed shirt from the UK diving team; a painting by a famous Malawian artist (valued at £500); a signed picture of Olympic athletes, the Brownlee brothers; a signed shirt from the Leeds Carnegie team; a signed shirt from members of Manchester United football team, and much more. Tickets are £35 each. Click here to fill out the order form and send with a cheque for the full amount to Dr Ruth Boddy at GSAL.

Barry Brindley, GSAL’s Malawi coordinator, will again lead the popular biennial 23 day tour to Malawi this summer for 45 pupils from year 11 and the sixth form. While there, the party will have the chance to visit established projects, and check on the progress of others which are nearing completion.
