Brief synopsis of workshop :


We are a challenge seeking species and we like doing tough stuff as long as we are not made to feel stupid.

This session will explore the implications of ‘high challenge and low threat’ both in terms of working with others and for classroom practice. It will consider the cognitive science which suggests that humans are curious but thinking is hard.

What you will get out of it

Reasons for increasing challenge both for ourselves and for pupils. Some strategies for achieving this.

Profile of facilitator

Mary Myatt is an education adviser, writer and speaker. She works in schools talking to pupils, teachers and leaders about learning, leadership and the curriculum. She maintains that there are no quick fixes and that great outcomes for pupils are not achieved through tick boxes. She writes and speaks at conferences about leadership, curriculum and school improvement.
