This is the outcome of Tom’s consistently high standard of play in GSAL’s 1st XV squad, scoring 23 tries in 11 games to date this season.  However, it was the second of his blistering tries scored at the end of a 70-metre dash in the final play of the Champions Trophy against Millfield which clinched an invitation to the England U18 rugby training squad.

Other accolades for Tom include ‘Player of the Month’ by Rugby World magazine in September; then in November Tom was awarded ‘Try of the Month’ by Samsung Sport and England Rugby. The GSAL rugby 1st XV squad start 2015 as Rugby World’s ‘Team of the Month’ for January.

GSAL’s head of rugby and the squad’s coach John Mackenzie said: “Tom has made significant strides forward in the 1st XV, having represented the side for three seasons. He has always had pace, but his reading of the game and his ability to spot and exploit a gap has made him a real threat for opposition sides. His virtuoso performance in the Champions Trophy final will be savoured for many years to come, and has really put his name on the map!”

Tom said: “It’s been a great season for me. Rugby is all about teamwork and as a team we have worked hard this season to win our games and progress in the national cup. By reaching the final and winning Team of the Month, it is wonderful to have achieved national recognition for all the efforts the boys have put in, and it has been a great finale to our school rugby careers.”
