The Grammar School at Leeds

Year Event

2003

June - the respective Governing Bodies of Leeds Girls' High School and Leeds Grammar School announce to parents their proposal to merge the two schools. A series of parent consultation events begins.

2004

January - the respective Governing Bodies of Leeds Girls' High School and Leeds Grammar School announce that they will proceed with the merger of the two schools.

June - the name of the new merged school is agreed to be The Grammar School at Leeds. Members of the Governing Body (designate) are agreed and Dr Mark Bailey is appointed Head (designate).

2005

August - the schools legally merge to form one charity and one company called The Grammar School at Leeds.

2006

August - Leeds City Council gives planning permission to extend the site at Alwoodley Gates which will accommodate girls and boys from age 7 to age 18. The school's nursery & pre-prep (ages 3 to 7) will remain in Headingley.

2007

January - a new nursery building opens in Headingley.

April - building work begins at Alwoodley Gates, in preparation for physical merger in September 2008.

2008

September - Physical merger is complete and The Grammar School at Leeds opens its doors to girls and boys.
