A message to all GSAL students who are stranded overseas as a consequence of the current travel disruption

The message is that you must not panic about the school work that you are missing at this time.  If you have routine access to this site, then you may be able to access the school intranet and take advantage of some of the resources which have been placed there to help you with your studies.

We will do all that we can to support you in catching up any missed work when you return to school.

 A message to GSAL students who will sit external examinations (GCSE , AS and A2) this term

The Joint Council for Qualifications (JCQ) has made the following statement today (Tuesday 20th April) with regard to external examinations.

JCQ statement: Potential disruption due to volcanic ash

JCQ and its members are currently monitoring the situation. The first scheduled examinations are due to start on Monday 17 May. There are some oral and practical assessments taking place this week but alternative arrangements are being made for individual centres where this is necessary.

Where an assessment is unable to take place due to teaching personnel, exam officers or candidates being stranded abroad the following will apply:

1. The assessment may be rescheduled;

2. The candidate may apply for Special Consideration if they are stranded abroad.

Wherever possible, examinations and assessments should be conducted according to the centre's published timetable.

The candidate must meet the published criteria for Special Consideration as indicated in the JCQ publication, Access Arrangements, Reasonable Adjustments and Special Consideration.
