Three GSAL poets had the honour of performing at the West Yorkshire Playhouse in a warm-up event for the acclaimed poet – and OL – Tony Harrison.
Mohammed Kundi, year 9, Quentin Scobie, upper sixth, and former pupil Tom Jenkins, who left GSAL last year, were part of a group of five young poets from Leeds Young Authors who each performed work inspired by Tony Harrison.
Harrison, who is widely regarded as the nation’s greatest living poet, had returned to his home city to headline the Leeds Big Bookend Festival.
In ‘An Audience with Tony Harrison’ he read from a book of his poems, interspersed with anecdotes about his boyhood in Leeds which included reminiscences of his schooldays at Leeds Grammar School, before answering questions and meeting the audience at a book signing.
