Wednesday 6 October 2010 The Lower School Speech Day and Prizegiving has been held at Leeds Town Hall. A full house of students, staff, governors and parents enjoyed an evening of speeches and music, before the distribution of prizes to pupils from Y7 to Y9. Chairman of the Governors, Mr David Gravells, made a welcome speech before handing over to Mr Mike Gibbons, who was attending his first Speech Day since taking over as Principal and Chief Executive in May this year. Prizes were distributed by members of the school’s governing body. Mr Richard Obank presented prizes to Y7 winners, Mr John Woodard to Y8 and Mr Naveen Ahmed to Y9. Musical interludes throughout the evening were Allegro (from Sonata in G): Handel Op1 No5, performed by Lily Scott on flute and Emily Pawley on ‘cello; Czardis : Monti, performed by Iona Boyd on violin; Prelude No 20 in C Minor Op 28 : Chopin, performed by Rachel Kempner on piano; Tico-Tico Bird in the Cornmeal : Abreu, performed by Christopher Harmer on violin; and Allegro Appassionato Op 43 : Saint Saëns, performed by Isobel Rose on ‘cello.
