The number’s up for the fleet of buses operated by GSAL Transport Limited because from now on each vehicle has its very own name!

The names which are now displayed on each bus were chosen following a competition among the younger year groups at The Grammar School at Leeds (GSAL). Children from Rose Court, GSAL’s nursery and pre-prep, and Junior School were invited to draw a picture of their perfect school bus and give it a name, before the twelve winners were chosen by GSAL Transport’s team of drivers.

Shirley Jeffs, from GSAL’s transport team, said: “Our fleet of white buses looked a bit boring so we thought it was an ideal opportunity for the children to get creative and give each bus some individuality. We had over 250 entries with fantastic drawings and the children let their imaginations run riot – who wouldn’t like to find a chocolate fountain on their school bus?”

The drivers’ overall favourite was Blossom, chosen by Eleanor in Year 3, while the shuttle bus that runs between GSAL’s main site at Alwoodley Gates and Rose Court will be known as Rosie, chosen by Chloe C in Reception.

The other winning names are Gizmo – Iniyan, Year 3; Nessy – Lochan, Year 1; Gertie – Simran, Year 1; Bella – Ruby, Year 5; Sapphire – Arielle, Year 5; Bob – Hamzah, Year 6; Myrtle – Oliver, Year 4; Daisy – Fatimah, Reception; Bertie – George, Reception; Petal – Lily, Year 1

GSAL Transport Limited was set up at the start of the academic year to bring GSAL’s school transport service in-house.

The bus network covers 11 routes daily at the start and end of the school day plus late services for those doing after school activities, serving pupils from a wide radius around Leeds. There is also a shuttle bus between Alwoodley Gates and Rose Court in Headingley to assist families with children in the nursery and pre-prep. Visit For Parents to find out more.

GSAL Transport Limited also provides a private hire service to other schools; for enquiries email or call 0113 228 5182.
