A new home for Rose Court

A new home for Rose Court

Our plans are taking shape for the relocation of Rose Court from Headingley to Alwoodley Gates, the main campus of The Grammar School at Leeds (GSAL), with effect from September 2020.

The vision for GSAL shared by our Principal, Mrs Sue Woodroofe, and the GSAL Board of Governors is to provide an outstanding education from nursery to sixth form, with all pupils on a single site as part of a whole school community.

Bringing Rose Court pupils and staff to Alwoodley will create a unified primary phase and ease the transition for pupils between the different learning phases. The very youngest children will enjoy an educational environment specially designed for their needs whilst having access to the superb facilities that our purpose-built campus has to offer.

Our proposal

The Rose Court children will be accommodated in the existing school buildings at Alwoodley Gates, with no need to develop new buildings on the site. Pupils will learn in classroom spaces designed for their year group and continue to enjoy access to specialist facilities and outdoor play areas that are age appropriate.

This will be achieved by reconfiguring parts of the junior and senior school buildings and creating a covered bridge to link the two parts of school. We have already secured all necessary permissions from Leeds City Council.

The first phase of the work will take place in summer 2019 and will be completed ready for the move in September 2020. GSAL is working with other education providers and Leeds City Council to ensure that, once vacated by Rose Court, the Headingley site continues as an educational centre of excellence for the city’s young people.
