A seamless move

How the move will take place

This is an exciting time in the history of The Grammar School at Leeds as we move Rose Court, our nursery and prep-prep school, from Headingley to Alwoodley. This is not without a tinge of sadness as we have had a presence in Headingley for nearly 150 years. Whilst we will be leaving the building and grounds behind, we will be bringing all of the elements that makes Rose Court special, its staff, its ethos and most importantly the pupils themselves to Alwoodley Gates.

An inspiring head teacher
We are delighted to have appointed Mrs Gabrielle Solti as our Head of Primary School from this September. She brings with her a tremendous passion and commitment to primary education, developed over many years working at a number of leading schools in both the state and the independent sector. Gabrielle’s ambition is to make GSAL Primary School the leading primary school in the north of England. She will be working closely with the current team to enable them to deliver an inspiring and challenging curriculum, a diverse and high-quality co-curricular programme and superb pastoral care.

Gabrielle will be part of the school’s executive leadership team working alongside Sue Woodroofe, Principal,  Graham Purves, Head of Senior School and Steve Kingston, Director of Finance and Operations, to oversee all aspects of our 3-18 school.

Building works
We are committed to minimising the disruption for pupils and parents, so most of the work will be undertaken during the school holidays, indeed some of the works have already been completed. As there are no additional buildings, the majority of the works will be unseen until much closer to September 2020. However, we are confident that when you come to school in September 2020 you will be impressed by the transformation, both inside and outside, to create an outstanding primary school. Visuals for the the new primary classroom will be available soon.

Keen to find out more
Our autumn open doors will provide more details on the new school and updates on progress. They will also include an introductory talk by Mrs Solti along with the opportunity to ask questions, view floorplans and see a little bit of Rose Court already in situ at Alwoodley Gates.

Our legacy at Rose Court and our commitment to education in Headingley
Although we will be moving to Alwoodley Gates, our commitment to education and the Headingley community who have embraced us so well remains. We are keen that Rose Court retains its educational roots and serves a role in the local area, so we are working closely with Leeds City Council and other organisations to explore its future use.
