Coming up with questions for a new quiz game was child’s play for pupils in years 1 and 2, who saw their ideas in print for the first time when the game’s inventor popped into school to say thank you.

Dean Tempest, originally from Wetherby, is one of the trio behind Linkee Ltd, a new independent games publisher which launched family quiz game Linkee in 2012. Linkee proved such a hit last Christmas that its inventors were inspired to develop Dinkee Linkee, just for children.

With each box needing at least 1,000 questions, Dean and the Linkee team appealed to schools across the UK to contribute. Pupils at Rose Court, part of The Grammar School at Leeds, rose to the challenge, working in groups to write lots of questions which they submitted to the Linkee team.

Each set of questions is published on a card with the children’s names and school, and by way of a thank you Dean presented all 18 Rose Court contributors with their own personalised card to keep.

Dean said: “Linkee isn’t written by boffins in a library, it’s written by real people to make the questions more fun and relevant. Who better to write a game for kids, than kids! We received so many good Linkees from Rose Court that we wanted to come in and say thanks.”

“We met lots of teachers at Christmas gift fairs last year who said that Linkee for children would be a great way of serving up educational content in a fun and creative way. Plus we think ‘Dinkee Linkee’ sounds brilliant!”

Anne Campbell, Rose Court deputy head (pastoral), said: “It’s been fun and thought-provoking for the children, who worked out for themselves how to go about it.”

Year 2 pupil Hannah Taylor said: “At the beginning we found it hard but then we chose the Linkee category and wrote lots of questions and the clue. We’d like to work on more cards.”
