Ricky Wilson joins cast of The War of the Worlds

Wednesday 23 January 2013

Kaiser Chiefs lead singer Ricky Wilson has joined the stage show The War of the Worlds in his first acting role.

The OL has embarked on an international arena tour in Jeff Wayne’s cult musical production featuring Liam Neeson, Marti Pellow and West End stars Jason Donovan and Kerry Ellis.

Ricky plays The Artilleryman in the show which is based on the hit album created by Jeff Wayne in the late 1970s and which was re-recorded last year as The War of the Worlds: The new Generation.

He said: “Jeff Wayne’s The War of the Worlds is part of the musical landscape and I have always been a fan. Even at school it was one of those things during music lessons that was held up as being a good piece of work.

“It is daunting to do because people love it so much. But I want to start doing things that scare me. I got the email from Jeff Wayne inviting me to be a part of it and that is not something you can say ‘no’ to.”

Liam Neeson takes the narrator role, originally created by the late Richard Burton, appearing as a 3D hologram in the show, which is based on HG Wells’ novel about an invasion from Mars led by ‘the tripods’.

The show opened in Dublin in November and played 15 venues throughout England, Scotland and Wales in December. Dates are also planned in Europe in 2013.
