Applying to Sixth Form

Entry to Sixth Form

Sixth Form at The Grammar School at Leeds (GSAL) offers a superb educational experience encompassing so much more than simply academic study, and we wish to attract students to our Sixth Form who will fully grasp the opportunities on offer.

Entry requirements

Applicants in Year 11 at another school will be expected to achieve at least six B/6 grades at GCSE. Admission will be subject to a satisfactory interview and reference from the current school. In making a decision on whether to admit a student, we will take into account:

  • The student’s contribution to school life, his/her reports and disciplinary record
  • The student’s choice of A-level subjects and whether these are appropriate in light of his/her GCSE performance
  • Evidence of good attitude and work ethic, indicating the potential to succeed at A-level

Each A-level has subject specific entrance requirements, which can be found in our Sixth Form Curriculum Choices 2018. The school reserves the right to decline entry to specific courses, however we will work with students and parents to explore alternative course choices that are in the student’s best interests.

How to apply

Prospective students and their parents are warmly invited to our Sixth Form Information Evening on Thursday 29 November 2018 where they will be able to view our Sixth Form facilities, hear from our Director of Sixth Form as well as explore all the subject choices open to them.

The application deadline for Sixth Form is the end of February for the following September, although we may be able to consider later applications in certain circumstances.

Please note, the deadline for applications for Sixth Form bursary places is 30 November, prior to the year of entry – so for September 2019 entry it will be November 2018.

Applications should be made using our online application form and will incur a £50 application fee.

Candidates will be invited for an interview with the Director of Sixth Form and the Head of Lower Sixth in the autumn or spring term. Following the interview and receipt of a school report, we will advise applicants of the outcome. All offers of a place in sixth form are conditional upon satisfactory GCSE results, and will be reviewed when the results are released in August.
