Thursday 24 January 2019 GSAL Principal Sue Woodroofe pays tribute to Peter Sparling, former chair of governors: It was with great sadness, both personal and professional, that I heard of the death of Peter Sparling (OL51), former chair of the governors. Peter was a legend at GSAL when I arrived and, as I have come to understand the school more and more, his vision and inspiration have been more and more apparent. Peter’s was a life of traditional public service with the best of motivation, and both LGS and GSAL owe him enormous gratitude for his heartfelt commitment to both schools over so many years. He was also a man with a kind word for everyone and his enthusiasm for the school and support for the individuals within it was a real encouragement to all who knew him. Our sincere condolences go to his family at this sad time, as we also note the loss in our own community. A full obituary of Peter Sparling will appear in the next edition of Memento. Alumni
