Upper School Speech Day and Prizegiving

Thursday 4 November 2010

The Upper School Speech Day and Prizegiving has been held at Leeds Town Hall with a full house of students, staff, governors and parents joining together to celebrate the achievements of pupils from Y10 to the Upper Sixth.

Chairman of the Governors, Mr David Gravells, made a welcome speech before handing over to Mr Mike Gibbons, who was attending his first Upper School Speech Day since taking over as Principal and Chief Executive in May this year.

The guest speaker for the evening was Professor Michael Arthur, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Leeds

Members of the school’s governing body presented the first of the evening’s prizes.  Dr Hilary Luscombe presented prizes to Y10 winners, Mr Colin Greenhalgh to Y11 and Mr Ken Morton to Lower Sixth.

Many of last year’s Upper Sixth students returned from their first term at universities to receive their awards which were presented by Professor Arthur.

The evening was rounded off by a vote of thanks from head boy and girl, Hugo Govett and Felicity Jordan.
