James Micklethwaite, a Y9 student at The Grammar School at Leeds, is this year’s winner of the Tebb piano competition, beating off strong competition to secure the trophy and a cheque for £250.
James, who has just taken his Grade 7 piano exam, played Andante Moderato by Faure and Joanna McGregor’s Lowside Blues. Second place went to Rachel Kempner, Y7, with Wing Yee Lo, Y11, in third place.
The competition was open to the whole school and was adjudicated by the eminent pianist Benjamin Frith.
GSAL head of music, Miss Philippa Bradbury, said: “Well done to James for being this year’s winner. The competition was very strong and all ten finalists should be congratulated on playing to a very high standard.”
