The new student leadership team has been appointed at The Grammar School at Leeds (GSAL) and there’s a familiar look about one of the new head girls.

Year 12 student Eve Munro will be taking over from her sister Libby who has been head girl for the last year. She will be joined on the student leadership team by fellow year 12 students Felicity Greenfield, Toby Hillery and Oliver Robinson.

Eve admits to an element of sibling rivalry, saying: “I originally thought the role wasn’t for me, but seeing Libby do it made me want it too, and to do it even better! The main motivation for me though is the opportunity to represent what GSAL has to offer and to be a good ambassador for the school.”

The four were appointed after a rigorous selection process in which they had to earn nomination, write a manifesto, appeal to the electorate – in this instance fellow students and staff – and prove their calibre to the school’s senior management team at a final interview.

Toby said: “We found the selection process challenging with 16 shortlisted candidates who were all very strong, however it was a valuable experience and good preparation for university and job interviews.”

The student leadership team’s responsibilities will include representing the school on formal occasions, liaising on behalf of fellow students with senior staff, building links between Senior School and younger age groups and coordinating student volunteers for open days and tours.

Eve added: “This is an exciting time for the school; we take on our new roles at the same time as our new principal Mrs Sue Woodroofe and we’re looking forward to working with her.”
