All A* and A for one third of A-level students

Thursday 15 August 2019

A third of students at The Grammar School at Leeds (GSAL) achieved a clean sweep of top grades in this year’s A-level examinations.

Some 70 students picked up all A/A*, with 13 scooping all A*s. Of these, seven notched up four A*s each and a further six celebrated with 3 A*s apiece.

More than half the cohort – 56 per cent – achieved a minimum of ABB grades.
• 16 per cent were passes at A*
• 49 per cent of grades were at A*and A
• 78 per cent of grades were at A*-B

Principal Sue Woodroofe said: “We wish our students all the very best as they leave school, knowing that they are well placed for the next chapter of their lives, wherever that may be. We are particularly delighted at the breadth of destinations our students have chosen, including universities, specialist destinations like the Guildhall School, degree apprenticeships with large corporate organisations and Oxbridge colleges.

“These are a superb set of results and we are extremely proud of our students. Their dedication and diligence has been impressive and these results are the culmination of years of commitment by staff and students alike, well supported by their families too.”
