“You look just like your mother!”

Wednesday 15 May 2019

Just one of the lines of conversation overheard at last Saturday’s Leeds Girls’ High School 50th reunion! 27 LGHS alumni from the 1969 cohort were reunited in the aptly named 1876 room (the year LGHS was founded) at The Grammar School at Leeds for a reunion lunch.  The reunion, organised by Viva Baillie (née Bolster) and Ann Starkey (née Anderson) took eight months of planning and tracking everyone down.

Some of the group have managed to keep in touch over the last 50 years and reunions were held after 20 and 40 years but many hadn’t seen each other for over 50 years creating very happy and emotional moments when they met again.

Alumni travelled from all over the UK, including three from the south coast. However Helen Huntley (née Brown) travelled all the way from Mexico for the event.

There was also an archive and photograph display and after lunch the school archivist, John Davies, took the group on a tour of the school.

There will be three more LGHS reunions this year. If you know of any ladies who left in 1974, 1967 or 1979 please ask them to check GSAL’s events page for more information about their reunion.  OLs are invited to the Back to School event held at the former LGS site at Moorland Road on Saturday 9 November.

If you have a significant reunion coming up in 2020 or 2021 please get in touch with the alumni office, alumni@gsal.org.uk. Alumni are able to host their reunions here at school and we would be happy to help you track down your year group.
